For the first Fall Collab, Vans Vault is teaming with the American painter, cartoonist and founder of the art and culture magazine JUXTAPOZ Robert Williams. The alternative art movement of the late 20th and early 21st centuries found a kindred spirit in one of America’s most maligned underground artists, the painter Robert Williams. It was he who brought the term “lowbrow” into the fine arts lexicon with his groundbreaking 1979 book, The Lowbrow Art of Robert Williams. From this point, West Coast “outlaw culture” slowly started to evolve.
Williams pursued a career as a fine arts painter years before joining the studio of famous artist and custom car builder, Ed “Big Daddy” Roth, in 1965. As Roth’s art director, Williams moved into the rebellious anti-war circles of the early underground comix scene.
The collab features a SK8-HI 38 Decon LX, Authentic 44 Reissue LX, and a Slip-On 98 Reissue LX each with a different piece of artwork from the famed artist. In addition, each sneaker comes with custom boxes and a graphic cotton shoe case. There will be three limited capsule tees in stock as well. Available in store July 23rd.
