The Nike Air Huarache was released in 1991, the launching point for a long line of Huarache lineage. The shoe was designed by legendary sneaker designer Tinker Hatfield who drew inspiration from water skiing when designing the shoe. He was intrigued by the way the neoprene water ski booties hugged your feet, and adapted the technology to be part of his newest running shoe. The shoe features a neoprene bootie for added support, similar tech is used on the Air Jordan 8. Another interesting detail about the Huarache is that the swoosh is not prominently featured, as Nike wanted to let the technology speak for itself. Originally the Nike Air Huarache was a performance driven running shoe, but has since made the transition to being a lifestyle and comfort oriented runner.
